Subject of research

My research interests concern neuropsycholinguistic aspects of the processing of two languages in bilinguals, investigated through research issues reaching from language acquisition to language disorders:

Language attrition: attrition refers to “healthy language disorders” arising in bilingual immigrants who do not use their L1 any longer, as well as the socio-, psycho-, and neurolinguistic factors conditioning language attrition.

Simultaneous interpreting: the processing of two languages in bilingual experts, i.e. conference interpreters, specifically the role of cognitive resources such as working memory or other executive functions in the processing involved in simultaneous interpreting.

Language control: alternately using multiple languages involves specific demands with respect to language control mechanisms. These are presently one of the main issues of research on bilingualism and multilingualism.

Language disorders: Multilingualism in many aphasic patients is still not sufficiently taken into account. Assessment tools for language disorders in bilingual and multilingual patients need to be improved and diffused.
